The Day My Brother Alex Was Born

by Nikki, 3rd grade

“Hey, I wonder when we can go into the hospital room and see our new little brother?”  I asked my Aunt Denise, swinging my legs in green chair with pink and brown flowers.
I was sitting in the waiting room.  I was with my older sister, Eleni, my older brother Dimitri, Aunt Denise, and Uncle Andy.  The my dad walked out from my mom’s hospital room and whispered loudly, “You can come in and see Alex.”  When I was walking, I was practically jumping ten feet in the air!  Finally, I was in the room.  It felt like seven hours to get there, but it only took two minutes.
“Wow, this is a small room,” I said moving a curtain.  In a hospital bed I saw my mom.  I was so happy to see her, I hadn’t seen her for a day.  My eyes were glued on her for about three minutes.
Then, in a soft whisper, I said,” Hi, Mom.”  At that moment I started to cry.
“What’s wrong?” my dad asked seeming confused.
“I am happy to be here,” I said with a tiny bit of anger back towards my dad.  A minute later I had stopped crying.  Now I felt better.
My mom asked, “Would you like to hold Alex?”  I smiled at my new brother.  I smiled at my mom, then my dad.
“Yes!” I exclaim.  My dad lifted Alex and handed him to me.  I grinned down at Alex.  I rocked him back and forth, as my mom did to me when I was little.  I smiled at him for a long time, and I saw a slight smile from Alex.
“Mom, did you see that?” I asked.
“Yes, I did.  That’s amazing!”  my mom exclaimed.
Wow, that made my day.  Holding him close to me, I could feel his warm skin and tiny little body.  I felt so, so happy!
