I Ask the Impossible
by Martha Espinoza
(inspired by Ana Castillo’s poem “I Ask The Impossible”)
I ask the impossible.
Treat me better than a princess.
Love me like you’ve never loved before.
Accept me how I am.
Don’t judge me because of my past.
Marry me, but don’t cheat on me.
Be faithful to me.
Make me thank you, not regret you.
Let me know there is somebody
I can talk to with no problem.
Make me feel like an angel in heaven
being with you.
Make me feel that I’m in good hands,
and that you will never let go.
Le me know how much you love me,
and how much you admire me;
but please don’t lie,
be straight up with me.
I want you to respect me,
trust me, and love me.
Is that too much to ask for?
I want to dream
about being with you,
but I also want my wishes
to be granted beside you.
I want you to show me
that not all men are the same;
that you came into my life for good,
and that you are going to stay.
